Bicycling Urban Plan
Visualizing Urban Biking Patterns

As populations increase, cities will need to embrace new public and private forms of transportation. Currently, bicycle culture is becoming ubiquitous in many cities throughout the world. Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Portland and San Francisco are few of them. However, the general marginalization of the bicycle to the automobile has not allowed it to become a more essential form of transportation in urban areas. Embracing bicycle transportation as a safe and carbon-neutral option, we propose the implementation of dynamic bike lanes, which pop-up according to GPS tracking of bicycle users through a mobile "Cycle Tracks" app.

A deep understanding of existing bike patterns is required to develop this dynamic bicycling system. To this end, bicycling data was captured via a mobile app and then visualized to identify urban patterns.
